History and Origin
Rottweiler has a long history date back to the Roman Empire. They are normally used for cattle herding, carting and guarding at that time. One of the routes the soldiers travelled is through Rottweil, WÙrttemberg that is where the dog, Rottweiler get is name from. After the decline of Roman Empire, some of the soldiersÍ dog are left in Rottweil, and quickly become useful as guard dog and cattle dog by the local. However, in the 1900s, the breed has declined to only one female to be found in Rottweil due to the introduction of mechanical devices and donkeys for transporting. Fortunately, during World War 1, the huge demand for police dogs led to the revival of this breed.

Temperament
Rottweiler, "Rottie" is calm, couragerous, and very trainable. They are an all-round dog, capable to guard, herd, track, cart-pulling and etc. They are family dogs but prefer to listen/ tend to listen to only one master. Might not be a perfect with chidren due to their intensity and large size. Owner need to be wary if one owns other small animals or intend to introduce new pets into the house, Rottie might not tolerate well with that thinking the new animal is coming to infringe its territory. It is advisable to socialize Rottie with other dogs/ animal when young.
Description (Appearance)
Rottweilers are medium large and powerful dog. They always look confident, protective and loyal. Great for people who are looking for a guard dog, early age obedient training may be requirement do prevent over-aggressiveness towards others. Rottweiler short coat is black with mahogany/rust markings on the chest, muzzle, cheeks, eyebrows and legs. Their skull is relatively broad similar to the mastiffs.
Size
Height--Dogs, 24 to 27 inches. Bitches, 22 to 25 inches at the withers.
Weight--Dogs, around 110 pounds. Bitches, around 95 pounds.
Living Conditions
Rottie is suitable either indoor or outdoor. However, enough attention should be given to them if left outside to avoid destructive behaviour.
They have no problem adapting either in warm or cold climate.
Exercise demand
Rottweiler is a relatively energetive breed, they prefer long stroll everyday with their human companion and occasional vigorous exercise.
Health problems
This breed is generally hardy. Prone to ACL damage, hip dysplasia and entropion (narrowing of the slit between the eyelids).
Life Expectancy
10 - 12 years.
Grooming
Rottie has short and hard but glossy coat. They do not need regular bathing, bath only when necessary. Rottie do not shed a lot as well, seasonal shedding will happen but brush with a firm bristle brush to remove the hair every morning to avoid hair failing all over the house.
Special Concern
They snore occasionally and might overweight if overfeed.
