History and Origin
Giant Schnauzer is orginated from Bavarian and Wurttemberg regions in Germany during the late 19th centuries.
Giant Schnauzer is bred from Standard Schnauzer with Black Great Dane, Sheep dog and Bouvier des Flandres for herding and guarding purpose.
Giant Schnauzers look a lot like Standard Schnauzers just that they are bigger and have more power-built.

Temperament
Giant Schnauzers are intelligient, calm and loyal dog.
They are some times willful and need firm and experience handler.
This breed needs a lot of leadership from their human owners and need work to do, in other words, need to keep busy with tasks all the time.
So, with their big size, they are well suited for protection, cart-pulling, hunting and etc; a very versatile dog.
Besides, they are also good family dogs but will mostly attach to one person as their master. Good with children but need supervise during playing.
Giant Schnauzer may be good with other dogs and small animal given socialization from young age.
They may be dominant over other animals and may be aloof with strangers and other newly-introduced animals.
Description (Appearance)
This breed is powerful, big, sturdy and robust. Like all Schnauzer, this breed needs to maintain a bushy and longer facial hair, a trademark for the breed.
The coat is generally black; pepper and salt (combination of white and black color hair for the outer coat) are sometimes available.
The outer coat is usually hard and wairy, the inner coat is soft and dense to protect from cold.
Dewclaws appear on both fore legs and hind legs.
Removing dewclaws for hind legs is a must but optional for the fore legs according to standards. Removing dewclaws to some are consider better option for the dogs to avoid accidental injuries.
Tail is normally cropped; Crop ears are optional.
Size
Height -- Dogs 26-28 inches.
Bitches 23 - 26 inches from the wither
Weight -- Dogs 60-80 pounds.
Bitches 55 - 75 pounds
Living Conditions
This breed is best living outdoor due to its size and high energy level. Preferably living in a cooler climate.
Exercise demand
This breed needs a lot of exercise. They have tons of energy and need a good place to let it out. Long walk and running in a big fenced yard is most suitable.
Doing exercise like hiking, swimming, hunting and fetching etc are some of the activities that you can do with the dog.
If you are not an active person who likes to spend a lot of time with your dog, this breed may not be good for you.
Health problems
This breed is prone to toe cancer, hip dysplasia, epilepsy and Autoimmune disease.
Life Expectancy
12 - 15 years.
Grooming
Grooming this dog need some practice. The outercoat is fairly easy to comb. One needs to take care about it dense undercoat to prevent tangle and mat. Trim the hair occasionally for easy maintainence especially around the muzzle and ears. Giant Schnauzer shreads little to no hair
