History and Origin
Bullmastiff is bred from crossing English Mastiff with Old English Bulldog originated from England. Old English Bulldog is much more similar to todayŐs American bulldog in appearance and built. The 40% Bull x 60% Mastiff breed is said to exist as early as 18th centuries used by gamekeepers to tackle poachers using their massive size to hold them and trained not to bite. Bullmatiff is officially recognized in the early 1920s.

Temperament
Bullmastiff is always described as loyal, protective, at the same time easy-going and even tempered. They are natural guard dogs however they are not prone to biting intruders; some may need to be trained in order to do so. They donŐt bark a lot as well, but the sound is mellow, loud and clear if they bark when sensing something not right. They are prefect family pet and good with children all age. Supervision is needed for small children in case of accident happen during rough play. They can also tolerate other dogs and small animals if socialize from young. This breed may be dominating without proper training and knowing who is the master from day one.
Description (Appearance)
From the cross between Bulldog and English Mastiff, Bullmastiff is relatively shorter than English Mastiff in size but with more powerful built and a shorter snout. Bullmastiff should always show great strength and alertness. The coat is should be short and straight; color from brindle, red to fawn are permissible. Areas around the eyes, snout and ears should be black. The ears are pendant and the tail is set high and hocked.

Bitches: 24 - 26 inches from the withers

Dogs: 110 - 133 pounds
Bitches: 100 - 120 pounds
Living Conditions
Bullmastiff loves to live in-door close with their family members. They will do well staying outside as well given proper shading and cool environment. They do not tolerate well with extreme climates.
Exercise demand
Bullmastiff does not required vigorous exercise. They are pretty lay back. However, regular and moderate exercise should be provided to maintain a healthy well-being.
Health problems
Bullmastiff are prone to some hereditary disease like elbow/hip dysplasia, gastric torsion, eye disorder and cancer.
Life Expectancy
Around 10 years.
Grooming
Minimal grooming needed for its short hair. Rub with rubber brush to remove dead hair 2-3 times a week. Bathe once per week is preferred for cleaniness reason.
Special Concern
They may get overweight easily without proper exercise and over-feeding.
