History and Origin

Poodle is originated in German, initially was bred for hunting for bears. It was known as the Pudel, which means "Splash in the water" if translate from old German exraction to English. The Standard Poodle is the oldest poodle which developed first, and the Miniature Poodle and Toy Poodle were developed after Standard Poodle. Although Poodle is originated in German, it became the national dog of France. In France, Poodle is called Caniche which means duck dog.

Temperament

The Poodle popular because of its intelligence, active, alert and self-assured attitude. Besides, its affectionate and happy nature also made it an excellent companion dog. Poodle is sensitive and devoted to its owner. Poodle also good with children and other pets. Poodle is also very adaptable, easy to train and able to perform lots of tricks. It is known to be wary of strangers which made it an excellent watchdog too.

Description (Appearance)

There are 3 varieties of Poodle: Toy Poodle, Miniature Poodle and Standard Poodle.
Poodle is square in shape having an elegant appearance. Its skull is moderately round and the head is long with a fine, long and straight muzzle. The neck is well proportioned, solid and slightly arched. Poodle has round dark eyes with black or brown color. The tail is docked and set high; The ears are long, wide, flat and covered with thick feather and hanging close to the head.
Coat color: blue, white, black, silver apricot, cream, brown and red. Most poodles have curly, dense, and non-shedding hair.

* Distinguish with adult shoulder's height
Toy Poodle: <= 10 inches
Miniature Poodle: >10 inches, <=15 inches
Standard Poodle: >15 inches

Living Conditions

Suitable to live in apartment if sufficient exercise is given.

Exercise demand

Chihuahuas are active and playful. Daily walk is needed for Chihuahuas. Dogs who lack of daily walks can lead to behavior problems.

Health problems

The most common diseases of Poodles are: Hip Dysplasia, Cataracts, Cancer, Epilepsy, Addisons' Disease and thyroid issues. It also prone to other diseases such as allergies, skin disorders, PRA, diabetes, heart disease and Glaucoma.

Life Expectancy

About 11 to 15 years.

Grooming

The Poodle's coat is generally does not shed. Poodle's coat need extensive grooming and care to maintain in a good condition. It need to be bathed regularly every 2 to three weeks and clipped every 6 to 8 weeks. There are mainly 3 types of clips for Poodle:
