History and Origin
Parson Russell Terrier, Parson, cousin of Jack Russell Terrier. They are initially from the same breed but are now consider different breed with slight different conformities after compromising between organizations. Ê
Parson is direct decended from white fox terrier and is developed by Jack Russell during 19th century in England to hunt fox. The small size makes the hunting easier because Parson is not only able to track on above ground but also into the fox hole.

Temperament
Parson is a very active and devoted dog. They are fearless and gung ho in all the activities they do. Not given enough exercise and obedience training, this dog might create havoc in your living area. They are eager to please and intelligent; training should not be difficult given enough patience. Exerting human as pack leader is a must. They are good watch dog as they like to bark and alert when strangers are around. ÊThey are family dog but might not do well in home with small childrens. They wonÕt tolerate well with unintentional abuse and may often return with agression. Small children and dogs should establish a mutual respect in order to avoid the above from happening. With their terrier instinct to hunt, most Parsons will not do well with smaller animals. Socializing with other dogs should be provided when young to avoid agression, they wonÕt back down even confronting with larger dogs.
Description (Appearance)
Parson always looks alert, active, playful and plenty of spirit. They are sturdy built, compact construction suggesting endurance and strength in the small built body. The coat is short and stiff to protect again harsh weather and improve movability through holes and thick bushes. Some other variant of broken and rough coat are also available. The color coat should be more than 50% white with black, tan, or brown markings. The ears should fold forward and the tail is generally docked. The crest is flat and easily carries around by hunters.

Weight -- 14-18 pounds
Living Conditions
Parson can tolerate both leaving indoor or outdoor provided with enough shelter from cold. Apartment life is acceptable given enough exercise.
Exercise demand
Parson needs a lot of exercise may it be long jog, play or hunt. Parson may be destructive not given enough exercise.
Health problems
Parson may be prone to eye problems, deafness and joints degenerative disease. Else, they are a hardy breed.
Life Expectancy
About 13 - 15 years.
Grooming
The short hair is relatively easy to groom. Brush daily and bathe only when necessary.
Special Concern
Parson may be very active and some may consider them to be hyperactive. Not recommended if you are looking for peace and quiet.
