History and Origin
Airedale Terrier or Airdale in short is originated from Valley of the Aire in West Riding in Yorkshire, England. It is said to be developed during the middle of 19th century. The original ancestry is uncertain, it is said that Airedale is the decendant of crossbreeding Old English Black-and-Tan Terrier with Bull-and-Terrier Dog, Otterhound and even Border Collie or some other sheepdogs. The reason is unlike other terriers, Airedale not only able to successfully flush and pin games during hunting but also capable of scent-track, retrieving, guard and herd -- an all-in-one dog. Airedale is competent as the dog for military and law enforcement search and rescue before the use of German Shepherd.
