History and Origin

Cocker Spaniels or American Cocker Spainiels were originally developed from English Cocker Spaniel, which were then brought to America. American Cocker Spaniel is smaller in size and have longer neck compare to English Cocker Spaniel. It was initially bred to hunt woodcock, and this was how the name of "Cocker" came from. Now, the American Cocker Spaniel is bred primarily to be a companion dog or show dog.

Temperament

American Cocker Spanile is an intelligent, adaptable, local and joyful dog. It is an excellent companion dog which eagle to please everyone. Cocker Spaniels are good with children and also scocialble to other pets. They have a lively and cheerful attitude and they are good swimmers too.

Description (Appearance)

American Cocker Spaniel has a compact body, arched neck and rounded skull. Their eyes are round and dark which always reflect its happy and active attitude. The coat of American Cocker Spaniel is silky, and either wavy or flat. The color of their noses are either black or brown and their tail is docked. Coat color that allowed for American Cocker Spaniel are black, any solid color other than black(ASOB) or parti-color.

Living Conditions

Suitble to live in apartment if sufficient exercise is given. A small yard for American Cocker Spaniel is good as it is active indoor-dog.

Exercise demand

Owners of American Cocker Spaniel are encouraged to bring them for daily long walk or play some games with them. They are active indoor dog.

Health problems

American Cocker Spaniels are prone to some disease such as: Deafness, Glaucoma, Skin problems and patellar luxation. There are also some minor concerns for American Cocker Spaniels such as: allergies, hip dysplasia and liver disease.

Life Expectancy

About 10 to 11 years.

Grooming

Some owners prefer to keep their American Cocker Spaniels' coat long which need frequent brushing and shampooing. Some oweners prefer to keep the coat of American Cocker Spaniels to medium length so that they are easier to take care of the coat. Frequent scissoring and clipping is needed for American Cocker Spaniels with long coat.
American Cocker Spaniels are average shedder.
