Common Dog Skin Disease - Sarcoptic Mange
Information, Signs, Symtoms and Treatment


Sarcoptic Mange (Scabies) is a contagious skin disease causing by female mites which burrow their eggs under the skin of dog. Those eggs hatch in a few days then develop into adults, and the adult mites start to lay their eggs. This circumstnaces happen in less than three weeks.

The signs and symptoms of Sarcoptic Mange:

- Hair loss on some particular areas
- Sever itching in particular affected areas such as face, armits, chest, elbows, ears and ventral abdomen.
- The dogs will scatch the affected area which lead to sores on the skin.

Dogs that infected with Sarcoptic Mange require treatment to recover.

Treatment for Sarcoptic Mange:

(1) Apply Ivermectin

Apply Ivermectin in two doses for two weeks apart to kill the mites.

(2) Apply Selamectin

Apply Selamectin monthly for the dog can prevent from Sarcoptic Mange. To resolves the actual infection of Sarcoptic Mange, extra dose is needed for about 2 weeks to get reliable results.

(3) Dipping width anti-bacterial or anti-itch shampoos

Mitaban dip, Paramite dip and Lime-Sulfur are recommended to be used which can resolves the problem within a month.
Dipping is usually together with Ivecmectin Treatment or Selamectin Treatment.
