History and Origin
Dachshund, or some call them as Weiner dog or Hotdog dog is originated from Germany during the early 1700s. Some believe that Dachshund is originated from Egypt; this might be true because archeologists found Dachshund like mummy dogs from Egyptian burials. There are 3 varieties of Dachshund; the smooth-haired Dachshund, long-haired Dachshund and wire-haired Dachshund. Smooth-haired variety is said to descent from the cross breed of German Mini Pincher and Deutsche Bracke with selective breeding for elongated body and short legs. Whereas, long-haired and wire-haired varieties are cross breed of smooth-haired Dachshund with German Stoberhund and Dandie Dinmont Terrier respectively. ÊDachshund is initially bred to chase, scent and flush burrow-dwelling animals like rabbits, hare and badgets.
