History and Origin
Shetland sheepdog, ÒSheltieÓ one of the most popular dog breed under AKC register. Sheltie is originated from Shetland north coast island of Scotland. The ancestry is said to be the direct decendant of Rough Collie selectively breed for smaller size. However, this is not true, Sheltie actually has a mixed ancestry said to be decendant from the cross breed of Rough Collie, Border Collie, Pomeranian, extinct Yakki dog and the King Charles Spaniel. For centuries these Shelties are used to herd and guard livestocks in Shetland where most of the animals are rather smaller in stature, like ponys and smaller breed of cattles.
