Dog Breed Behavior - Destructive Chewing
There are many reasons why your dog chew, rip and destroy your stuff. The reasons behind also depends on the maturity stage of your dog. When they are still in puppyhood, chewing your stuff may because they are curious and would like to explore their surrounding by putting whatever they can into their mouth. Also, it is because they are teething or they may be bored. Puppies like children; they need plenty of exercise or playing to burn off their energy.
For adult dogs, the reason for their destructive behavior maybe different, none the less they may be bored because lack of mental and physical exercise. They may also be destructive due to anxiety for not having you around them. It is their pack instinct to feel anxious for not having their followers following them, they feel extremely worried by take it out on your stuff or himselves. That why it is extremely important to establish yourself as the pack leader, pack leader are allow to leave the followers, but the followers never leave the leader.
To avoid destructive chewing from happening, one must always leave your stuff away from their reach and provided them enough chewing toys. Besides, give them a firm ÒNoÓ when you see them chewing stuff on other than their toy, then, pass them their toy, pat them when they chew on their toy, to praise them for doing the correct thing.
